Why Smile?

Have you ever heard of 'angry smile'? Well, I haven't and I doubt they're compatible. Times without number I've tried to hold both (anger and a smile) at the same time but one ends up extinguishing the other. Really, whenever I'm able to force a smile and humm tunes when I sense anger forming a knot inside, the anger dissipates. Same with other negative emotions. You doubt it? Why not experiment it? Well, while you are busy at it let me share more of what I found about smiling.

They say it brightens your countenance, your day and your life; makes you look younger and  more attractive, causes an influx of positive emotions that reduce anxiety, relieve stress and even elevates the mood of those around you, helps you make friends easily and keep them. Then too, you can smile your way to happiness as it releases the feel-good hormones -- endorphins, dopamine and serotonin into your system. Really! Smiling is calming. So I put a handful of smile quotes together just for you. I hope they give you added reason to always have a smile handy, however tough things get.

Yes! there are many languages, but a smile speaks  them all. So regardless of our background or journey so far, we can all smile. Sometimes bitterly painful memories can attempt to ruin our day but just that smile can lift that weary heart out of that ashpit. I sincerely don't find smiling easy, but there's no single day that breaks with not at least one thing to be grateful for. May gratitude for that one thing move us to take a smile with us wherever we go. So,together, let's fake it until we make it.

  1. Just a smile....can lift a weary heart. I lost a big part of my life while growing up just because I refused to smile.... Today, some say I am older than my age because life gave me no reason to smile then. Now I realize the priceless stake of smiles, I am profusely smiling the lost time as long as I see the sun.
    Thanks Joe, well articulated.

The Golden Rule

Do you have to break hearts, inflict emotional wounds to achieve your own happiness? Does any such happiness ever last? No! It is always short-lived .You know why? Well, someday, when the novelty of getting what you so desperately want at all cost  has worn off, when you have tasted it in and out and that initial excitement and satisfaction wears out, you will be left with nothing but emptiness and regrets in your quiet moments. Then you will begin to look for subtle ways to make amends, to get forgiveness only to realize too late that like broken eggs some broken hearts never mend, and that no thanks to human imperfection an apology may not pacify a sore heart as much as sorry is not an eraser... But what if by one means or another you survive your pangs of conscience,  pause and think of the casualties on your trail: will they recover? Will their lives be the same ever again? Will trusting and loving others naturally ever be business as usual for them again? Should the tears...

Excuses

"Excuses are the tools of the incompetent, used to build bridges to nowhere and monuments of nothingness." Those words by Obama sank deep down and hit a raw nerve. Truth be told, excuses are sweet and easy; they come in handy whenever we need to pacify our conscience when it starts to beat us for not doing the best we could to help a situation. E.g I have failed in life because so and so didn't give all the help I needed; I am depressed because those who should, have failed to encourage and motivate me; how I turned out is no thanks to my poor/toxic upbringing; I am this because the government is that; the list, really, is inexhaustible.  And one terribly unfortunate thing about a bag of excuses is that it is so light and easy to carry, which is why a good many of us effortlessly  take it with us wherever we go so much so that at any point in our lives when things fail  to go as planned or expected, there is a ready-made excuse. Yes, the blame could be on anyone or...

Happy Day

Woke up bright-eyed n bushy-tailed,beaming with smiles from the depth of a heart filled with gratitude for life and divine patience.... Woke up with positive vibes because I slept cool and dreamt of calm rivers and peaceful sunsets....there are troubles and there'll always be; there are good times, and there'll always be;there are friends and foes and there'll always be, AND this day I choose to focus on that bright side of life that keeps me fly and afloat.... When the bad days come deal with them with the strength He supplies,  BUT when the good days come ,smile through each second and savor each minute because no one knows tomorrow..... There is always at least ONE reason to smile each day... Good morning all.... Jochebed
